Reiki therapy is a safe, gentle and relaxing Japanese (energy) therapy. The word Reiki is a combination of the characters “Rei” (spiritual) and “Ki” (vital energy). It is a hands-on-body therapy in which the therapist places their hands lightly on or over a patient’s body to facilitate the patient’s process of healing.
The concept of Reiki is that this vital energy (Ki) is channelled to support the body’s natural ability to heal itself. Factors such as stress, trauma, negative thoughts and an unhealthy lifestyle disrupt this optimal flow of energy within your body, resulting in a block or distortion within the aura, leading to physical or psychological dis-ease.
The Ki (energy) of your entire body is driven by your thoughts and feelings, so the flow of Ki is dependent on the quality of your thoughts and feelings. Negative or dis-harmonious thoughts or feelings cause a disruption in the flow of Ki, as negative signals are projected to every cell of your body via your nervous system. This in turn affects your mental, emotional and physical health. According to research conducted by the AMA, 75-98% of mental and physical illnesses come from our thoughts.
The places where negative thoughts and feelings are stagnant or restricted is where Ki is restricted in its flow, and the organs that exist at these locations are restricted in their functioning. If the negative thoughts and feelings are not eliminated, pain and illness result.
The patient may be unaware of the negative thoughts and feelings that are lodged in the unconscious mind/body and therefore, are greatly hampered in changing or eliminating them. By enhancing the flow of Ki, the Reiki therapist can work directly on the unconscious parts of the mind/body which contain negative Ki-inhibiting thoughts and feelings and eliminate them.
As the Reiki energy flows through a sick or unhealthy area, it breaks up and washes away any negative thoughts or feelings lodged in the unconscious mind/body thus allowing a normal healthy flow of Ki to resume. As this happens, the unhealthy physical organs and tissues become properly nourished with positive Ki and begin functioning in a balanced healthy way, thus replacing illness with health.
From a scientific viewpoint, Reiki aligns your electromagnetic field or aura, producing electrical and chemical changes, which improve your physical and psychological wellbeing. Valid scientific data based on Reiki studies from Minnesota (USA), have found that Reiki may assist in reducing anxiety, pain and fatigue, induce relaxation, and help relieve the symptoms of depression. As western medicine continues to explore alternative methods of healing, Reiki plays an important role as an accepted and valued healing practice.
A Reiki therapist is trained to rebalance this vital flow of energy (Ki) within the body and stabilise the energy field of the individual. Once this optimal flow of energy is achieved, you can expect an overall improvement in your health and wellbeing, be more relaxed and at peace with yourself, and be able to cope more easily with life’s demands.
